While The Gods Are in the House will suit the needs of those who seek a pleasant, unobtrusive background listening experience, the original recordings which were tapped for the project are guaranteed to convey more of the essential living magic of James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, and Art Tatum. A few words regarding the album's title: legend has.
The peak of his career was the 40’s when his futuristic stylings paved the way for the up and coming pianists such as Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans. The liner notes by Andre Previn are particularly insightful and touching.

He did little prior preparation for the four marathon sessions that resulted in a dozen LPs (now reissued as eight CDs), so this series lacks the excitement and adventure of his earliest recordings although it is still enjoyable in its.
Excellent sound, some songs that Tatum didn't ordinarily play along with some of the "Tatum War Horses". Still, it's Art Tatum. All the songs are in the 3 minute format, all the songs are solo piano. You'll enjoy it if you're a fan of Art Tatum. And if you want to make your first foray into Art Tatum, this would be a good place to start.5/5(4).
